How We Test and Research
We use the same research process for every guide so readers can see how a recommendation was reached. Unless an article states that we tested a product ourselves, our guides are research-based and we do not claim hands-on testing.
What we look at
- Build and materials. Steel thickness and gauge where published, welds, finish and hardware.
- Capacity and ratings. Stated weight capacity, user weight limits and what the maker says the equipment is designed for.
- Footprint and height. Dimensions, ceiling clearance and whether it folds or stores away.
- Adjustability and compatibility. Hole spacing, attachments, plate and bar compatibility, dumbbell increments.
- Cardio specifications. Motor power, deck size, speed range, resistance type and noise reports.
- Assembly and delivery. What buyers report about assembly time, missing parts and shipping of heavy items.
- Warranty, returns and support. Length of warranty, return rules for heavy items and how the maker handles claims.
- Safety. Recall history, instructions for safe use and CPSC notices where relevant.
- Value. What the product offers for its price tier. We do not show prices because they change often; check Amazon for current details.
Sources
We draw on manufacturer specification sheets and manuals, published reviews, buyer feedback, community discussion and official sources such as the CPSC. We link to sources where it helps.
Training and medical advice
We do not give medical or personal training advice. If you have a health condition or are new to exercise, talk to a qualified professional before starting a program or using heavy equipment.
Corrections
If you spot an error, tell us and we will review it. We update guides as new models, recalls and information appear.
